A high-octane ride through the Zambezi’s rapids, right below Victoria Falls

Launched in early 2019, the Adventure Jet Boat departs from the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi River. Purpose-built for this stretch of water and packing 465 horsepower, it delivers a level of thrill unmatched by anything else in the area. The route runs through Batoka Gorge, directly beneath the Victoria Falls Bridge and near the foot of the falls themselves.

How the Trips Work

Departures run hourly from 8am to 4pm daily, with the final boat heading out at 3pm. You’ll be collected from your Victoria Falls hotel or lodge (guests staying in Livingstone will need a separate transfer arranged) and driven to the top of the gorge.

From there, you’ll gear up in safety equipment and make your way down to the launch point on foot — a steep, occasionally rocky descent, so a reasonable level of fitness is essential. Once harnessed into the boat, you’re off: carving through rapids, blasting up and down the river, and pulling sharp, high-speed turns for a genuinely heart-pounding ride.

One of the highlights is reaching the “boiling pot,” where you get an up-close view of Victoria Falls from below — a rare angle that really drives home the scale of this iconic waterfall. Along the way, towering basalt cliffs rise up around you, shaped over millennia by the river, alongside the same rapids that make the Zambezi a bucket-list destination for white-water rafters. The ride itself lasts around 45–50 minutes.

Think of it as a faster, punchier cousin to white-water rafting — it doesn’t cover as much distance or tackle the legendary grade 5 rapids, but it more than makes up for that in raw speed and adrenaline. Once you’ve hiked back out of the gorge, refreshments are waiting for you at the top.

Note on seasonality: the jet boat doesn’t run in April–May (high water) or October–November (low water). Since river levels depend on annual rainfall, these closure periods can shift slightly year to year.
