The Victoria Falls Bungee Jump has been rated one of the top bungee jumps in the world – not for its height alone (111 metres is significant, but not record-breaking) but for its location. You stand on the Victoria Falls Bridge, built in 1905 and spanning the second gorge of the Batoka at the Zimbabwe-Zambia border. Below you, the Zambezi churns through its rapids. To your left, the spray column of Victoria Falls rises. Behind you, the bridge cables disappear into the gorge walls. When you jump, all of this fills your entire field of vision for approximately three seconds of freefall before the cord engages.

It is one of the most iconic single moments available in African adventure travel. Every person who has done it describes it differently. Almost all of them describe wanting to do it again immediately.

What Happens

Your safety crew meets you at the bridge. They fit your ankle harness and body harness with methodical precision and walk you through exactly what is about to happen. You are positioned at the platform edge. The freefall lasts approximately three seconds – the cord engages in a firm elastic deceleration, bouncing you through a series of diminishing arcs before you hang suspended above the river. Recovery is by rope to the bridge or river platform depending on the setup on the day.
